About Us

Our Mission

We create an environment in which people from around the world visiting and living in Japan can safely engage in real estate transactions, regardless of language or business customs.

As Tokyo continues to evolve as a leading Asian city, our customers range from embassy officials, expats working for global companies, startup executives, researchers, and international students, to overseas investors in Japanese real estate.

Every day we strive to ensure every one of our customers enjoys a smooth and secure experience living and investing in Japan.

Our Philosophy

In real estate, people are everything.

We believe integrity is the most important quality, and that solid expertise combined with integrity builds trust.

To achieve this, we continually focus on employee training to ensure all our people provide honest, professional service. Our greatest joy is hearing our clients say, "I'm glad I came to Japan" and "I'm glad I chose Hikari Home."

Looking to the future, we will continue to walk the real estate path, connecting Japan and the world, with sincerity and passion.

Our People

Kazuhiro Okuda

Founder & CEO

Based on my principles of "integrity and an international perspective," I continue to enhance a real estate business that connects people, cities, and the future.

Living my mission to remove language and business barriers that prevent international visitors and residents in Japan from signing rental contracts and making real estate transactions, I've supported many international customers in their search for homes and investment opportunities. I also provide cross-border real estate investment and corporate real estate strategy consulting, and expert opinions drawing on my extensive knowledge of domestic and international real estate markets.

As a real estate investor myself, I manage properties throughout Japan, primarily in Tokyo, but also in Tohoku, Kansai, and Okinawa. I also focus on practicing data-driven real estate management, and sharing information using multilingual marketing and social media analysis.

Born in Osaka, I entered the Kobe University School of Business Administration in 1989. While still a student, I established Hikari Home, incorporating the company in 1995. Over 30 years I've expanded this business to offer real estate brokerage, investment, and management services for customers in Japan and overseas.

In 2004, I completed a Master's in Management of Technology (MOT). In 2015, my study of international management and policy at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore inspired me to create a management structure with a global perspective.

In my personal life, I am married with a daughter who is a doctor, and two cats – one black and one white. I enjoy playing the piano, golf, onsens, international travel, and watching rugby, tennis, and F1.

I strive to provide attentive, personalized support to each and every customer, together with enhancing the individual skills and quality service of our whole team.

As an executive officer, I manage the property management and the rental brokerage departments, charged with further developing both departments. At Hikari Home, I helped launch the property management department. I've also worked in a wide range of areas within real estate, including supporting the purchase of investment properties and asset management for overseas investor/owners.

My daughter has attended international school since kindergarten, and is currently in elementary school. I believe this experience helps me to provide focused advice on the education environment in Tokyo and help in choosing a school.

A native of Fukuoka Prefecture, after graduating I joined All Nippon Airways (ANA) as a member of the ground crew. I then transitioned to the real estate industry, driven by my desire to determine my compensation based on my own efforts and results. Though my family owns one of Fukuoka's leading real estate companies, founded 75 years ago, I moved to Tokyo with a strong desire to test myself. I joined Hikari Home after working as a rental broker for five years.

In the rental brokerage, I support each customer in finding a home that suits their lifestyle. I sincerity strive to help make your new life in Japan safe, comfortable and happy.

Before joining Hikari Home, I lived in Canada where I studied and worked, and honed my English customer service skills and cross-cultural understanding. Especially, my experience living in Canada gave me first-hand insights into the challenges and anxieties of finding a home overseas.

Originally from Nara Prefecture, after graduating I joined All Nippon Airways (ANA) as member of the ground staff at Kansai International Airport, supporting a diverse range of customers.
